Tickets

  • Is admission free?
    Yes, general admission to the festival is completely free.
  • Do I need a ticket?
    Tickets are not required at the entrance, but registering helps us plan and communicate updates.
  • Are activity tickets separate?
    Some experiences — like cooking classes and the naming ceremony — require separate booking closer to the festival.

Transportation

  • Where should I park?
    Parking near Jacques-Cartier Park is limited. Use one of our designated satellite lots with free shuttle service.
  • Is there a free shuttle?
    Yes, running every 15–20 minutes between designated lots and the festival entrance.
  • Where is the drop-off zone?
    An accessible drop-off zone is available at the main entrance. Full directions on the Plan Your Visit page.

Festival experience

  • Are activities suitable for children?
    Yes — the Kids African Discovery Zone and many workshops are designed for families.
  • Do cooking classes require registration?
    Yes, capacity is limited. Booking opens closer to the festival.
  • How does the naming ceremony work?
    Participants receive an African name, its meaning, cultural origin, a certificate and a blessing. Advance registration recommended.

Food

  • Are vegetarian, vegan or halal meals available?
    Yes — vendor listings on the Vendors page include dietary filters.
  • Can vendors accept cash?
    Most vendors accept both cash and card. ATMs are available on site.
  • How do I vote in the jollof competition?
    Voting instructions and stations are announced daily inside the Jollof Pavilion.

Accessibility

  • Is the park wheelchair accessible?
    Yes. Accessible entrances, washrooms, parking and reserved viewing areas are available.
  • Are service animals permitted?
    Yes. Only service animals are permitted on the festival grounds.

Safety & policies

  • What happens if it rains?
    The festival runs rain or shine. Severe-weather updates are posted on this site and on our social channels.
  • Is alcohol permitted?
    Outside alcohol is not permitted. Licensed vendors will serve on site.
  • Are pets permitted?
    Only service animals are allowed.
  • Is there first aid?
    Yes, a first-aid station is located near the main information booth.
